This study focuses on the logistics management practices involved in the distribution of Malar Brand Rice with special reference to Sivasakthi Modern Rice Mill. Logistics management plays a vital role in ensuring the efficient movement, storage and delivery of rice from the production unit to the final market. Effective logistics helps in reducing cost, improving delivery efficiency and maintaining product quality. The main objective of the study is to analyze the logistics operations such as transportation, warehousing, inventory management and distribution followed by the rice mill. The research also examines the challenges faced in logistics activities and the measures taken by the organization to ensure smooth supply chain operations. The study is based on both primary and secondary data. Primary data were collected through interaction with employees and management of the rice mill, while secondary data were gathered from company records and related sources. The findings of the study help in understanding the effectiveness of logistics management in improving operational efficiency and customer satisfaction. The study concludes that efficient logistics management is essential for maintaining timely distribution, minimizing operational costs, and strengthening the market position of the rice brand.
Introduction
The study examines logistics management in Malar Brand Rice at Sivasakthi Modern Rice Mill. The research aims to analyze logistics practices in the rice mill, understand its distribution system, identify challenges, and suggest improvements.
The study used a descriptive research design with both primary and secondary data. Primary data were collected from employees and management through questionnaires, while secondary data came from company records and reports. A sample of 100 respondents was selected using a random sampling method, and data were analyzed mainly using the percentage method and chi-square test.
The chi-square analysis showed that the calculated value (8.22) was greater than the table value (3.84) at a 5% significance level. Therefore, the null hypothesis was rejected, indicating that there is a significant relationship between a third-party logistics (3PL) provider and customer interaction behavior.
Findings reveal that Malar Brand Rice maintains good quality standards, strong relationships between management and employees, and uses modern technology in operations. The organization also maintains cleanliness and focuses on standardized products to enhance its reputation.
The study suggests increasing employee participation in decision-making, improving documentation processes, and strengthening human resource practices to enhance logistics performance and overall operational efficiency.
